Join Stephen Dobson as he shares insights from his extensive experience in building with rammed earth. He will highlight two of his landmark projects: the Margaret River Catholic Church in Western Australia and the Kakadu National Park Visitor Information Centre in the Northern Territory. Discover the evolution of rammed earth techniques over the past 50 years.

Our Speaker: Stephen Dobson Stephen Dobson is an engineer and the Managing Director of Ramtec Pty Ltd, established in 1979 as Australia’s first rammed earth construction company. Since then, Ramtec has built hundreds of structures across Australia, including award-winning wineries, schools, resorts, hotels, cathedrals and endless houses. Among its most notable projects are the Dobson House in Cottesloe, Perth’s first rammed earth residence, which won multiple national awards in 1982, the Margaret River Catholic Church in Western Australia, and the Kakadu National Park Visitor Information Centre in the Northern Territory, which also won numerous awards. These landmark projects showcase the durability, beauty, and environmental benefits of rammed earth. Stephen is also a founding member and founding committee member of the Earth Building Association of Australia (EBAA), where he has played a pivotal role in promoting earth building nationally. Stephen has consulted for numerous start-ups that have evolved to become successful rammed earth builders, both in Australia and internationally. Through international presentations, publications, and decades of hands-on building, he continues to champion innovation, craftsmanship, and sustainability in Australia’s construction landscape.
